Tokyo Adventist Hospital's Health Checkup Centre offers comprehensive Ningen Dock examinations — Japan's established preventive screening programme — with English-speaking staff available on site for international guests.
Ningen Dock (人間ドック) is a comprehensive voluntary health examination programme that has been practised in Japan since the 1950s. The term — meaning "human dry dock," by analogy to the maintenance inspection of a ship — describes a systematic, head-to-toe assessment designed to detect health risks before symptoms arise.
Our Health Checkup Centre welcomes international visitors and residents of Japan. English-speaking staff are available on site to assist with questions and to guide participants through the examination process.
The following describes the structure and characteristics of the Ningen Dock examination offered at Tokyo Adventist Hospital.
Examinations cover cardiovascular, metabolic, hepatic, renal, haematological, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, ophthalmological, and auditory parameters. The S Course additionally includes visceral fat CT, thyroid panel, endoscopy, and metabolic index measurements.
English-speaking staff are available at the Health Checkup Centre to assist international visitors. Participants are guided through each stage of the examination process. Korean and Mandarin assistance may also be available — please enquire at the time of reservation.
Following examination, an internal medicine physician conducts a consultation to explain preliminary findings. A comprehensive written report is subsequently sent within approximately 2–3 weeks.
Tokyo Adventist Hospital operates departments in internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology, urology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, dermatology, palliative care, and paediatrics. Where follow-up is indicated, referral to the appropriate department can be arranged.
The examination is typically completed within one morning. A meal is provided on site following completion. Participants are advised to allow approximately three to four hours from arrival.
The Health Checkup Centre is located within the hospital premises in Amanuma, Suginami-ku, Tokyo. The facility is approximately 18 minutes by train from Shinjuku Station on the JR Chuo Line.
Two Ningen Dock courses are available. All fees are stated in Japanese yen, inclusive of consumption tax. Approximate conversions are provided for reference only.
In addition to the standard Ningen Dock examinations, a range of gynaecological and women's health screenings are available as optional add-ons. These can be selected during the reservation process.
All fees are inclusive of consumption tax. Gynaecological examinations are conducted by female physicians in a dedicated examination suite. Please indicate any preferences or requirements at the time of reservation.
